So, right before my vacay, I auditioned for a show. I hadn’t heard anything, either via my cell phone, or through G via our home phone. So, I assumed that I was not cast. Then, this evening, I get an e-mail from the chair of the theatre congratulating me on being cast, and offering to arrange an opportunity to pick up a script before rehearsals start. Errr….ummmm….great?
I want to do the show, but only certain roles…so I’m really wanting to know what is up, so I don’t commit to something I really don’t want to do. On the other hand, at least I’m being offered something, and don’t have to hang myself over not being cast in anything for a few months.
I did reply to the e-mail and mention I would love to chat with the director,l so hopefully I will hear something soon, and will be offered the role I really want (well, there’s a first, second and third choice, any of which I would accept, though I am pretty sure I am too young for at least the third choice, hence the reason it is third).
Cross your fingers, kids.

vacation all i ever wanted

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

ahhhh…vacation. Day two. Or perhaps day one. I don’t think actual day one really counts. I spent it on the tail of an incredibly stressful day of work. I finished packing, had some good-bye loving and drove for twelve hours. Okay, so really only six of those hours were on day one, but still, I spent twelve hours driving.
So, her I sit at my mom’s computer in a far-flung Detroit suburb. Things I learned today: the superbowl is being held in Detroit this year, the mayor of Detroit is looking at this as the big chance to turn Detroit around (yeah, don’t get me started on how screwed up the city is, and how every mayor seems to expect some magic wand to be waved, and the city will “POOF!” be magically transformed into a thriving metropolis of shiny buildings and sidewalks full of happy people bustling about to work or the theatre or to shop in some lovely department store, revered by millions all around the world as the height of urban design…instead of a horribly misguided city full of history that continues to be destroyed in the name of progress…), rest areas suck the minute you cross the border from Indiana to Michigan, and if I continue to eat like I’m on vacation, I’d better workout like Demi Moore getting ready for Striptease if I don’t want to return home looking like a beached whale. Well, like more of a beached whale.
My day so far has been enjoyable. I forgot how nice it is to drive in places where people know how to merge. I remembered how much I love driving through Chicago. I managed not to have a complete panic attack driving through the Indiana construction where I was forced to drive against one of theose concrete barriers in a too narrow lane. I got to eat at a new restaurant in my hometown, where they *gasp* refurbished a building that has been there for ages looking decrepit, and made it a wonderful bar and eaterie. I was sad to see that more buildings and homes that have been around as long as I can remember are gone or in the process of being gone (including my childhood church where my sister was married, I was baptized and confirmed–don’t laugh, empty spaces where the homes of neighbors stood…the building that was my dad’s high school, and my sister’s and my middle school sitting vacant). I saw one of my cousins who has been a great help to my parents. She showed me some of her beading, and we talked about how much fun it is to look at sparklies. I got to see my sis and the chilluns. Man, I love those kids. My nephew continues to be the coolest kid evar. I helped my niece do a Sudoku…it was for homework so I had to resist the urge to just do it for her. I unpacked, and worked on some beading. I’m not trying to be keyed up about hearing back from my audition on Saturday. It’s just a community theatre, but I love, love, love the scrip, The Women. There are two roles I would love to do. I should know Wednesday or Thursday. I’ve also spent some time researching upcoming auditions, and thinking of what I want to do at the upcoming unified auditions (ooh, I need to remember to take the day off work for that). It feels good to acutally want to audition again. There was such a long chunk of time where I felt too fat, too unqualified…just drifted away from my dream. I might use my mom’s library card while here and read some plays, since I have time. I’m working on some beading (projects that I started oh, about a year ago). And, I should get my niece’s Tokyo Mew Mew costume done while here. I wanted to have it done a long time ago, but I need to fit some of it right to here, and some of it is actually a bit tricky. It should look pretty kick ass though. It is nice to sew again. Another thing that I used to be so fearlesss about, and suddenly am questioning my ability. Hopefully this will get the juices flowing again, and I will use some of the fabric and patterns I’ve been collecting. I am also refusing to stress out about seeing people or getting places. Whatever I do, I do. If I don’t, no big whoop.
Well, I seem to just be rambling, and I want to get my crunches and tricep curls in, since those are my mandatory daily workout items. The cardio and the rest of my strength training gave way to napping (imagine, after driving from 6pm to 6am), and seeing my fam for the first time for the trip. I’m currently super comfy in my “make me purr” jammies (which are red, comfy, a little sexy, and have kitties on tehm), and am looking forward to lounging with my cat and my beads the rest of the evening. I may meet my cousin and her baby for lunch tomorrow…and Wednesday promises Mongolian Barbecue (the BEST Mongolian barbecue, IMHO)…beyond that…I don’t know.
All I can say, so far, this is making ahuge difference for my stress level.

but they’re so cute!

From the Mpls Star Tribune
Woman Dies After Squirrel Plugs Propane Line
BEMIDJI, Minn. — A woman is dead and a man hospitalized after a squirrel became lodged in a pipe between the furnace and the chimney, causing propane fumes to enter a rural Bemidji home.
The Hubbard County sheriff said John Bennett and Maxine Tischman, 67, were found lying on the floor of the home. Tischman was pronounced dead at the scene. Bennett, who is in his 70s, was taken to North Country Hospital in Bemidji.
Sheriff Gary Mills said investigators found the squirrel lodged in the three-inch pipe after locating strong propane fumes in the area near the furnace.

…where was I?

Oh, yeah…getting the junk out of the trunk.
I left of with my recap of 2005, in May…so here is
June We had to bust ass on getting our laminate floor laid, our living room paint touched up, and cleaning, because we were finally celebrating the infamous G‘s college graduation. We started early for the folks who didn’t want to be out late, and the party wound up finishing early. At least early for us.
At the beginning of the month, my friend, dance and goth girlfriends moved to New York. It was a good choice for her, and I was and am thrilled for her…but missed her the minute she left. Not long after, at the end of June, my good friend, LaLa moved to Spokane due to her husband finding his dream job. I missed her right away too. It’s hard not to be able to see them or go out with them whenever I want. Hopefully, 2006, will allow for visits to both of them.
Also in June, I auditioned for the now infamous Night of January 16th. I am pretty sure that I was cast because every other woman at the auditions was brunette, and I was willing to dye my hair blonde. When I was called back, I was told that the director was looking for more men to audition. I talked G into auditioning…the rest, as they say, is history.
July July saw rehearsals starting for the show. G’s mom came up to visit during the Taste of Minnesota. I went blonde. Huh…
August Insanity! Mid month, we opened January 16th. It would be opening night that G and I made a fateful trip to Decoy’s in White Bear (remind me to tell you why you should never, ever, even with a gun to your head go there). It was then that we were hooked with the Fab Five. This group of G and I and three guys from the show is one of the best things that has happened to me. I have made great friends with these people, and it means a lot to me. My family came out to visit, the whole lot of them The week before the show opened, I had the flu. Second time in 2005. I was miserable during tech. I remember one night, we’re running the show. Everyone is dying from heat. I’m wearing a long-sleeved, black, high-necked, polyester dress, wool felt hat, tights, gloves, and a fur. I was so cold, I was trying not to make my shivering obvious on stage. I recovered, and managed to finish the run, spending lots of time getting cocktails with the fab five, and dragging them out to Ground Zero with us. The show was okay, but the people we met were amazing. Also, it was the first show I’ve ever done, that my dad has seen. I was really excited about that, I just wish it would have featured some of my better work. I even made time at the end of the month to hit the State Fair, and the MN zoo. Lots of fun, and so worth it. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it, but I have a great family. I love them dearly. I wish I could see my niece and nephews more often, they are growing up so fast! My niece is the goth anime girl now, and in her second year of official teenagerdom! My older nephew is the coolest kid in the world. He is kind, helpful, he is so comfortable with himself…he doesn’t let anyone ruffle him, and he is very intelligent. My little nephew is beautiful, and a little too smart for his own good. He loves dinosaurs and lego, can figure out video games faster than most high-school kids (and he’s only eight!). Spending time with them is awesome. Plus, that usually means I get to see my most favoritest sister in the world. She is one of my very best friends, and we get along so well, and have so much fun together. If only she would move closer to us….
September Another crazy month. We closed the show, saw off the family, and won our big trip to California by Movieokeing our hearts out. I decided to take time off from auditioning to maintain my sanity. Other than those things, and working like bees, not much else happened…hmmmm
I would continue, but October and November promise to be long each on their own. I also need to do a few thousand loads of laundry. So, if I am good and get caught up, I will post more later….

weirdest thing…ever…
