Anyone a fan of the Three Stooges? I have this DVD I got for Christmas (yeah, yeah)…and, well, I don’t like the Three Stooges. G is indifferent to the Three Stooges. So, if you like these guys, and want a DVD…lemme know. It’s all yours. The DVD is 75 minutes long, and contains the episodes “Disorder in the Court” (The Stooges are called in to testify at a murder trial…blah, blah, blah…hilarity ensues…blah, blah, blah…real murderer.
“Brideless Groom” (to inherit a fortune, Shemp must marry before the evening, blah, blah, blah, wacky hijinks ensue, blah, blah, blah, win him back)
“Malice in the Palace” (This episode, set in the desert, follows Larry, Curly, and Moe as they set out to recover the elusive rootin Tootin diamond from the thief Emir the Shmo. Will their disguise of Santa Clause fool the ruler into giving them the diamond??)
So, if you want this piece of classic comedy…I will give it to you the next time I see you. If there are no takers, then I will drop it off at Goodwill next week.

I’ll give you a dollar…

I just realized, that I toss that phrase around a lot. I always chuckle, and no one else does.
So I am inspired to write some back story.
On one of our trips to visit my family, we were going out to eat, and I chose this family style restaurant, that has many fond memories for me. It is a Greek-American place, and one of my favorite treats is saganaki, or flaming cheese. It is nice and dramatic, for when they bring it to your table, the server pours some sort of alcohol over it, shouts, “Opa!” and with a big woosh, sets it afire. Of course, we had to get the flaming cheese. The waitress sets the pitas on the table, along with the cup of alcohol. I tell my sister that I will give her a dollar if she slams the cup of alcohol. I do this, assuming that it is some sort of cheap liquor, and while it probably tastes like shit, will be totally harmless. The waitress comes back and does her cheese thing, and when she leaves, the cup is on the table, with just a little of the alcohol in the cup. I tell Alliecat that the offer is still on the table (har, har) and pull out a dollar. She slams the rest of the innocuous-looking liquid. Her eyes water. She coughs. She says that her throat is burning. She drinks some water. The throat is still burny. We are thinking, man, that must be some shitty alcohol. She gets her dollar, curses me, and we eat our meal.
The next day at work, she is talking to a coworker, who happens to be Greek, and tells her the story. Her friend looks at her, and says, “you aren’t supposed to drink that stuff. It’s basically lighter fluid.” Hmmm. That would explain the burning. I felt a little bad, as I seriously thought it was like some shitty vodka or something. Like Papov, with grain floating in it. But, no. So, we throw that little phrase out all the time now. However, we are a little ore careful with the ingestion of hazardous substances.
Since my sister is roughly the size of a hobbit, I guess we are lucky it didn’t do any permanent damage. At least we think it didn’t. Hmmm. Maybe shouldn’t think about that one too much.

never. eating. again. can’t. move. damn. the. french. can’t. type. either. please. forgive.
so, yes, we bought into the whole “retail holiday” business. And you know what? I am happy we did. It was most enjoyable, until now when I realized this will in no way help that I feel like a heifer. (a guernsey, specifically)
we started celebrating on Saturday. After working too late, and having to skip the party I said we were going to (yeah, I’m officially an asshole) and went to Ground Zero. I was all festive, in my red and white waitress dress, and cute white stockings with red hearts, and of course the red hair, though unintentionally so, was still festive. I expected more festive people, but outside of the candy hearts and like two people that worked there, there was nary any red to be seen.
Today, we exchanged cards. G, being the overachiever that he is, bought me a dozen long stemmed red roses, and some chocolate as well. He even got me a relatively safe kind, knowing that I can’t stop eating chocolate, and that I would be pissed at myself for it. We got dressed up, and went to Forepaugh’s. It is a gorgeous place, all victorian and such. Because he made our reservation so early, we got a fantastic table overlooking Irvine Park, and part of the Saint Paul skyline. Right below the room where an interesting (and romantic in a very creepy way) event occurred. The food was amazing. If it weren’t inappropriate, I would have moaned. we started off with Escargot and french bread. Scrumptious. We split a bottle of Vouvray. I like that I know enough about wine now, that I didn’t have to look at the wine list in total ignorance. The dijon vinaigrette on the salad was out of this world. Though it was tough to choose, I had the Salmon. Oh. My. So incredible. It had this puff pastry shell, and spinach, and some sort of orgasmic cream sauce, with a side of saffron rice. I literally closed my eyes and let my head roll back a couple of times. Geoff ahd the duck (you cannot have ze duck. You can have ze chicken.) I told him I would give him a dollar if, when the waitress came back to ask how everything was, he would say, “just ducky.” He didn’t. Though I shouldn’t have, we went for dessert. We got two, and split them. One was a traditional English trifle (you hardly noticed the beef sauteed with peas and onions!), and the other was some sort of flourless chocolate cake thing with grand marnier in the frosting. Seriously, and amazing night. I have never understood the idea of a “good” table versus a “bad” table, but our table was so wonderful. I felt slightly bad for the couple who had to sit staring at our backs, but since he talked about all the places he wanted to get and they were booked, too bad. The place is stunning…if I would have known, I would have considered having our wedding there. Of coursse, we would have had to trim the guest list by a LOT, but it would have been worth it. Knowing so much about the history of the place, and the area, it was even more interesting to us. I was wishing we hadn’t had a day of rain and snow yesterday, because I could have gone for a walk in the park. However, I think we would have been up to our eyebrows in mud.
So, commercial holiday or not, it was a delightful eveing. I only wish I didn’t have to work in the morning. Talk about a buzz killer.

blah…blah…blah…

I keep thinking that the mood to post will strike me, and I will have something that is witty/interesting/provocative to say. However, having been overcome by ennui, this has yet to happen. So I’m just going to pretend that no one is readin this (and if you are, I apologize) and just write something so that the immense pressure of perfection will subside (yeah, right).
So, after talking about it for months, I finally had my hair done. If I were feeling more ambitious, I would post the picture’s here. However, you will just have to head over to G to see. There are before and after pics in there if you would like. I am enjoying my new hair, although, I am thinking of getting *gasp* bangs next time I go in. When my hair is sparkly clean and freshly blown dry, it looks good, and I am passable without bangs, but with my high forehead, after one day, I look a little too horsey. That and I’m sure that age is not on my side here. I have avoided bangs thus far to avoid looking like a twelve-year-old, but now being in my early late mid twenties, methinks that wouldn’t be so bad.
Last weekend, we finally got a huge chunk of our furniture. Of course that means that we have to do some work around the house to ge that furniture built and in place. And by we, I mean I. I really want to get our new bed all put together and pretty. I am debating if I should repaint our room first. I like the current color, but I am thinking of either adding an accent wall, or changing the main color, and adding a diferent colored accent wall. This also means I need to get my sewing machine back in action and alter our new duvet cover, and make throw pillows. Except that the TV sitting on top of the sewing cabinet needs the bedroom to be put together again to have a home. Such a vicious cycle. Oh, and we got new flooring for the living room. I can’t wait to start ripping up the nasty ass carpeting and put down the new floor. Then we get to install our wall units, and then, we will almost have a done room. This means a new tab will open up in my redecorating/remodeling binder. This means I can start thinking….kitchen remodel!!! I really can’t wait for that, since I think the guy who designed our kitchen was on the crack when he did it. The cupboards are all but completely useless and dirt ass. They don’t line up with each other, or the appliances, or anything for that matter. But, that is a ways off. *sigh* At least until we get the stuff built, the cats are enjoying their new balance beams.
I should admit that our lack of progress over the last week in building our furniture, would have something to do with the fact that the flu knocked me on my ass for the bulk of last week. And part of this one. I was horizontal for longer than I have been for a long time. I am feeling better now, and trying to make up for lost time at the gym. So far, not so lucky there.
On happier notes, trips are in my future. I am going to see the fam for Easter (hurrah!). This means I finally get to show G what a real Easter is like. We will get to dye eggs, and find baskets full of goodies, and eat wayyy too much, and get dressed up…though I have a feeling we will miss church. Just a gut feeling I am getting. Then, at the end of April…drumroll please…..we are going to CALIFORNIA! Only for a weekend, but that weekend includes COACHELLA! WHOOOHOOOO! And we should be able to see our friend Travis a little while there, which will be a definite bonus. I think this trip will officially make us NIN groupies, but I can think of worse things to be that’s for sure. We still have to get plane tix, and figure out accomodations, but we have the concert tix, and that’s what’s important. Even if those tickets will use our ticket budget for the year. Gah! Oh, and Coldplay headlines the first day, which I reminded G that a certain Chris Martin is on my list. He seemed pleased. And by pleased, I mean he is quite possibly taking his mistress to the festival instead.
We still managed a trip to GZ over the weekend. I still felt like hell, so I took this as an opportunity to wear something I normally wouldn’t, as I can’t dance in it. Like an ass, I still thought I might try to dance, and thought I was going to die. So, we decided to spend the rest of the evening perched on a sofa, people watching. And, for the record, there are some scary people out there. And by scary, I mean the gene pool needs some chlorine. Stat. On the other hand, the beautiful people were still out, so at least there was balance in the force. I am hoping this weekend will be better. At least I should be reasonably healthy, so that’s a start. I picked up some new accessories for the evening. I think I will go festive, all red and sassy. We are attending an Anti-Valentine’s day party, then clubbing after.
Speaking of the big V-day…I will finally get to eat at Forepaugh’s. Mmmm…escargot…yummy! I am hoping that a ghost will join us as well, but that may be too much to ask. I have no idea what I will wear…but time is a wasting, so I’d better get on that. I the previously mentioned sewing machine problem was solved, I would create something…but no dice 🙁
hmmm…I am suddenly feeling very sleepy. I suppose the rest of this nonsense will have to wait until later….especially since I need to get my ass to work in the wee hours. If only I wasn’t beginning to despise my job…but again, more nonsense for a different day.
